Impotence and
Penile Erection
Penis and
Penile Erection
The penis contains
three chambers, two chambers which run along the length of the
penis, called corpora cavernosa and one chamber on the bottom,
called corpora spongiosum.
Chambers inside
the penis are filled with spongy tissues which contains smooth
muscles, fibrous tissues, veins, arteries and spaces.
The chambers are
surrounded by tunica albuginea, an elastic membrane.
Penile erection
occurs with mental arousal and physical stimulation.
Expectation and excitement of making love causes the smooth
muscles of the corpora cavernosa to relax, allowing blood to
flow and fill the penis causing penis enlargement . Tunica albuginea traps the blood by
compressing the veins, maintaining the penile erection.
Impotence and
Penile Erection
Achieving and maintaining a
sexually stimulated erection is a sequence maintained by
complex interplay between blood vessels and nerves.
Persistent disruption to
achieving and maintaining penile erection will result in
impotence.
Impotence or erectile
dysfunction is experience due to disruption in nerves impulses
between the brain, spinal cord, penis and malfunction in the
smooth muscles, tissues, veins and arteries near the corpora
cavernosa.
